Treatment for Pink Eye

Pink eye is also known as conjunctivitis. It is highly contagious and can be as a result of bacteria or a viral attack. It is a disease which is rather unpleasant as it causes a lot of personal discomfort. As a result of this, most people are seriously hunting for a remedy for pink eye and one that they can comfortably apply in the comfort of their homes. This condition is battled using plant infusions and solutions that are made into eyewash or even eye drops. A commonly used plant in the treatment of pink eye is chamomile which is also very effective.

Flowers from chamomile are made into an infusion via boiling in water and then utilized as some sort of eye wash. The affected eye is treated with this infusion by direct application for approximately 15 minutes. It is recommended that this procedure be repeated every hour or so. The mode of application does not really matter are some people prefer to use a cotton swab for applying the infusion into the eye. What really matters is that the swab be clean to avoid the transfer of virus and bacteria. A good alternative to chamomile is tea bags which are made of chamomile. Ensure that they are moist by applying water and then squeezing the resulting liquid onto the affected eye. A tea bag should be used once.

Fennel seeds and eyebright can also be used to make infusions for the treatment of pink eye. Eyebright can be replaced with tincture. In order to get an infusion that will be effective from fennel seeds, they should be boiled. They come in handy especially where the pink eye is characterized by pain and inflammation. Other treatment for pink eye includes the use of grated potatoes and warm milk. Potatoes possess caustic properties and so they should be used until results start to show. Aloe Vera has also been found to be great for cleaning the affected eye.

Besides solutions and infusions, there are other substances which are commonly available and which can be used to combat pink eye. Honey is a perfect example of these substances as it possesses antibacterial properties. It not only provides pain relief, but also helps tackle the inflammation. You only need to put a few drops of honey that has been diluted with water into the affected eye. It is important to note that you might experience a slight discomfort in the eye.
